How to Organize with PinHooks and Giveaway!

I first saw PinHooks on Pinterest. They are amazing! I love having tables that are cleared off at the end of the day and ready to be cleaned. PinHooks helped me accomplish this mission. They come in so many different colors!

 

They are also a great price! You can get a 20 pack for $6 or a 40 pack for $8. You can purchase them directly from their website http://pinhooks.com/. I am so lucky to receive this amazing product to review. I have used them all over my classroom and I am sure that I will continue to find more and more ways to use them throughout the school year.

 

The first project I did was organizing my center supplies. I have always used caddies and paper baskets, but after all the supplies my students did not have a lot of room to work! With PinHooks I was able to remove the table clutter and put in on the wall! I will use the clipboards to attach a sample of the work the students are to complete at that time. All items (excluding PinHooks) were found at the Dollar Tree or Dollar General and many came in multiple packets. I used them at my writing center also! The table is so small that I have there and they helped so much to give the students more room to work. I originally saw the hanging baskets when Mr. Greg from Kindergarten Smorgasboard posted them. I put cards and envelopes in the basket for students to write letters during center time.

 

 

 

I also used them to hang up a binder pocket with all of my sight words for my word wall in it. That way they are right there and ready to go. I plan on dividing them by trimesters and putting each trimester in its own pocket. I hung larger baskets by my door for the reflection sheets for our Character Counts program. I love using them to hang pails behind my teacher chair with supplies!

 

 

 

 

I always tend to be so busy I forget about student birthdays until they are announced in the morning announcements. I used PinHooks to hang up the birthday hats and a cute little bag with all my birthday treat bags and cards right by my calendar area so they are ready to go! I also love using them to hang signs from the ceiling.

 

 

 

Students love doing calendar time! At the beginning of the year we do it all together, but eventually students will lead the class with a partner. Using PinHooks I hung the buckets where students were able to get the items they needed. The last thing I did was put a clipboard outside the classroom door where people can put notes or anything I might need.

Teacher Created Resources Dollar Saving Teachers

Teacher Created Resources and Dollar Tree

I am so excited to work with Teacher Created Resources! I know all teachers love the Dollar Tree, the colors this summer were perfect for any classroom.

Here are the items I received from Teacher Created Resources, my favorite is the Ribbon Runners! They are double sided and have so many uses.  I want to order everyone they carry.

 

The first project I completed was a “How Do We Go Home” bulletin. At the end of the day in Kindergarten, ensuring that all students get to the right place can be pretty hectic. I have tried using a poster with labels, a list on a clipboard, and a clip chart using clothes pins but none of those have worked for me. Parents often change the way students get home throughout the year. I wanted an easy way to change it if needed. Using the items I received from the Teacher Created Resources and the items below from the Dollar Tree I created a bulletin that will work for my classroom!

 

These holders are magnetic!

 

I purchased these popsicle sticks a while ago at the Dollar Tree. The floral foam is great to use when you want the item to stay in place, I will be using it to hold the popsicle sticks in place.

 

Here is my finished project! I love how it turned out. It is located in the back of my classroom right above our cubbies and next to the door we exit from.

 

 

 

This project was quick and easy! I chose to create a bulletin board, but the containers are magnetic so you could use them on your whiteboard or classroom door if they are magnetic.

The first thing I did was apply the ribbon runner to the containers. You could use either side which is so perfect! I did laminate mine so that they were durable and ready to do for whatever I wanted to use them for. I used glue dots and double sided tape.

 

Next, I created the circles using the large zebra accents and letters from Teacher Created Resources. I used letters to represent how students get home, W-walker, P-pickup, A-After School Program, and B-bus. I am always finding ways to work on sounds and this is the perfect way to end the day with a little sound review. Students are always excused by the teacher in these small groups, one group at a time.

 

After you put the circles together, adhere them to the front of the container.

 

 

You will now need to cut the floral foam circle in fourths and place one piece in each container. This will help to hold the popsicle/craft sticks in place.

I then created my bulletin board, please see the pictures below:

 

After the bulletin is all setup it is time to staple on the holders, add some tissue paper, and add the popsicle sticks with students names and how they get home. I can’t wait to receive my class list and writing names. I will coordinate the small accent circles to coordinate with the large accent circles.

 

 

I will laminate the small accents so that I can reuse them year after year!

 These are the items I received this month.

 

These mats are double sided and I will probably use them for a math game.

 

I have never tried nutella before, it is so yummy!

 

I love these Avery round labels, tags, and of course I already LOVE PinHooks. I have been sent some to review from PinHooks and have been using them all over my classroom to get my room ready. I know I have said it before, but I promise I am doing a giveaway on them soon! I am working on using them to clear up table space and so many other things!

 

What teacher doesn't need tissue and stickers, I use these daily in my classroom. I will probably put these little packs in my son's backpack for school.

 

I love all the goodies and they will be put to good use!

 

Monday Made It

 

I am so excited to participate in my first Monday Made It (sorry it is Tuesday, at 3:00 in the morning lol) link up hosted by4th Grade Frolics!! What an amazing idea, Thank You! I have one Monday Made It this week, I am pretty excited about it!

 

 

I love using pocket charts in the classroom, however, finding colors to match my theme(s) is very hard. I know we all have that large blue pocket chart, you know that one I am talking about, the one that was most likely passed down to you or you bought it because other options are hard to find! It is now time to pull that buddy out and transform it into the color of your choice using what you probably already have, SPRAY PAINT! A teacher can change the whole look of her classroom with spray paint, it is kind of addicting!

 

Here are the supplies you will need to transform your pocket chart. I took this picture after with all the items I actually used. The first picture I took was outdated by the time I finished! That is why you do not see the red pocket chart or purple paint. At first, I was going to attempt to sew, but after one stitch by hand I knew glue was my best friend! I already had this super glue at home, thanks to my husband.

 

 

1. Pocket Chart- When spraying I noticed the mint green was easier to spray on the bright green and pink on red. In this post I used purple on a red pocket chart and it was harder in my opinion. I should of used blue with the purple!

2. Spray Paint- Gloss is better then satin. I used the Rust-Oleum pictured above and I liked it, great for plastic too!!

4. Tape- I used the thicker painters tape so I could fold it over and didn't have to use two strips. I used the skinnier tape when folding down the pockets.

5. Super Glue

6. Magic Eraser

7. Gloves

8. Ribbon, Washi Tape, Border, etc. - I kept it pretty simple when adding this so it didn't take to much away from the materials I will put in it. I will try using a stencil later on and other décor to make them unique to certain lessons/centers.

9. Goo-Gone and/or Rubbing Alcohol (Not Pictured)- I used this to help remove paper that accidently stuck on the pocket and the sticky residue from tape.

 

If you sew you may not need the super glue or the embellishment to cover the sides, I used it to cover the glue and I really like it.

 

So here we go!

 

 

 

Next time I will place a piece of paper/cardstock between the plastic and tape on both sides. Some of the residue was hard to remove. I would also make sure I went up a little more with the tape for a thicker line to hide any of the original color that might show in the crease. Not to much more than above, just a little.

 

 

The white strips of thin cardboard shown here came with the pocket chart.

 

 

Once both sides of the pocket are covered you may spray the back now or wait until after you are done with the front.

 

  

 

 

 

Take it slow and use thin coats to avoid puddles and runs with the paint.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

You can also do this before you fold the pockets and put tape on the back.

 

When you are all done spraying you finally get to......

 

 

Removing all of the tape you spent forever putting on is a great feeling!!

 

However, then my friend Mr. Red shows up again! I checked it and it looked ok while spraying. You may need to pull the pocket back a little and spray down there. When I did the pink on red this wasn't noticeable because they colors were not so different like these are. This will be covered up when you put things in the pockets.

 

 

However.... I am kind of meticulous so the red was bugging me!!

 

I added tape again on the front only, I made sure to cover the whole pocket except for what I was spraying (a thicker line).  You can get the over spray off with a magic eraser but it is so much easier just to cover every pocket on the top real quick.

 

If needed, clean the pockets after your all done spraying.

 Yeah, I was so excited!!!

 

 

You only need a little dot of glue if you use super glue, it will spread and cover the area. When you are gluing do not put the chart on the table and press down to adhere or your finger behind it, the glue seeps to the back a little! I learned this the hard way, my poor table and finger! I just held it up and pressed on the front. It dried pretty fast! If you sew, you may just want to use a clear thread instead of glue. You can now choose your item to run down the sides to hide the glue!! With the thicker washi on the pink one I did use a little bit of glue to help it adhere to the chart.

 

And, your done!!! I would LOVE to see your pics!!

Lessons Learned and Suggestions

 

1. Use gloves when spray painting. The paint on your hands will get on the pocket when you remove the tape!

 

2. Use a strip of paper or cardstock between the tape and the pocket on both sides. I originally just used the strip that it came with because it was already there, but it really helped! This will save you time later! I had to remove some of the residue from the tape and it wasn't easy.

 

3. Glossy spray paint was easier to use than satin. The satin tended to make little puddles and run.

 

4. Use colors that compliment each other. When I sprayed the red with purple as seen above, it was a lot harder than the pink on red. If the red showed a little bit in at the bottom of the pocket it wasn't as noticeable. A blue pocket chart would of been a lot better for the purple. I know I have said this a million times!! LOL

 

5. Take your time and use thin coats. The thread takes a little more paint to cover.
